Ellis R. Hogue


Ellis R. Hogue, 76, of Fombell (Franklin Twp.) passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the Heritage Hospital in Beaver following a six month illness.

Born May 7, 1933 in Ewing Park, he was the son of the late Walter E. and Verna Ethel Riney Hogue. Mr. Hogue worked at Matthews Conveyor in Ellwood City, Hydril Co. in Rochester and retired from Calvin United Presbyterian Church where he was the custodian. Ellis was a member and elder of the Calvin United Presbyterian Church. A US Army Veteran, he served from 1953 - 1955 during the Korean Conflict. Ellis was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 599 in Ellwood City, the Syria Shrine, New Castle Consistory, and the Legion of Honor.

He enjoyed gardening and his grandchildren and their activities. Survivor include his wife of 51 years, S. Jean McCracken Hogue, a son and daughter in law, Kenneth W. and Laura Hogue of Italy, a daughter and son in law, Beth and Steve Vardzel of Ellwood City, and two grandchildren, Elijah and Alex Vardzel. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Milton C. and Thomas W. Hogue.

Visiting hours will be held from 4-8 on Tuesday, September 29 at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. A Masonic service will be held at 8:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be held at the Marshall Funeral Home - Ellwood City on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Dr. William R. McGary officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will follow in Mt. Herman Cemetery.
