Curtis E. "Grub" Shoaf


Curtis E. "Grub" Shoaf, 84, of Brown Rd. Ellwood City (North Sewickley Twp.) died on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Ellwood City Hospital following an extended illness.

Born in Portersville, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Earl Shoaf and the late Sylvia Main Shoaf Brown.

Curtis retired in 1988 after 37 years of service as the head forger at the Ellwood City Forge. He was a member of the Park Gate Baptist Church. A US Marine Veteran, Mr. Shoaf served in the South Pacific during WWII. He enjoyed boarding and riding horses.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Maude Lutz Shoaf, two sons; Curt (Dee) Shoaf of Illinois, Ken (Esther) Shoaf of Ellwood City, one daughter, Betsy (Chuck) Means of Ellwood City, one sister, Betsy Stiefel of Beaver Falls, three brothers, Raymond Shoaf and Charles Brown of Ellwood City, Clayton Brown of West Pittsburg, six grandchildren; Ken Shoaf Jr., Jodi Patinski, Billy Means, Emily Lundmark, Curtis Shoaf, and Jennifer Conver, and nine great grandchildren,.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene "Tootsie" Gahagan and Norma Jean Nagel and a brother, Ronald S. Shoaf.

Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 on Tuesday, April 6 at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Funeral Services will be held at the Marshall Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Mr. Shoaf's nephew, Pastor Charles Brown officiating. Military rites will be offered by the Veteran Honor Guard. Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Park Gate Baptist Church or the donor's favorite charity.
