Roy V. Douthitt


Roy V. Douthitt, 99, of New Castle, formerly of Wampum passed away on Friday, May 7, 2010 at the Avalon Nursing Center.

Born August 4, 1901 in Chewton, he was the son of the late O.V. and Lyda May Hennon Douthitt. He was married to the late Cleo Bowers Douthitt who died in 1937 and then to Minnie Glasgow Updegraff Douthitt who died in 2006.

Roy was an active member of the Chewton Christian Church where he held various offices; service as an elder, church tresurer, and taught and was the superintendent of the Sunday School. Mr. Douthitt graduated from Wampum High School and was a Sergeant in the US Army serving in WWII.. He retired in 1975 after 35 years of service as the Maintenance Superintendent at Medusa Cement Co.

Survivors include a daughter, Sally Lou Klanz of New Castle, brother, David Douthitt of Tarpon Springs, Florida, two grandchildren, Edwin Roy (Karen) Freer of Union Twp., Lana Mae (John) Vansovich of West Pittsburg, and four great grandsons, Steve (Tiffany) Freer, Anthony Freer, Joseph Vansovich, and Lucas Vansovich.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Douthitt, three sisters; Esther Faber, Nancy Jennings, Helen Douthitt and a brother in infancy.

Visiting hours will be held from 4-8, on Sunday, May 9 at the Marshall Funeral Home Main Street Wampum. Military rites will be conducted by the New Castle Veterans Honor Guard at 8:00pm.

Funeral Services will be held at the Chewton Christian Church on Monday, May 10, 2010 at 2:00pm with pastor, Dick Allen officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mars Cemetery.
