Fred Paul Uber, 63, of
Wayne Township died the evening of Tuesday, August 4, 2009 in UPMC
Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh following a short illness.
Born December 16, 1945 in New Castle, he was the son of the late John
Fred and Melva June Hollibaugh Uber.
He was married to the former Nancy Jean Hennon Uber on November 29,
1973. She survives.
A 1963 graduate of New Castle High School, Mr. Uber served as a petty
officer in the Navy for four years. He was employed for 29 years as a
locomotive engineer with first the B&O Railroad and then its successor,
CSX Transportation. Mr. Uber served as a volunteer lifeguard and
CPR/First Aid instructor at the New Castle YMCA for several years. He
was a licensed ham radio operator with the long time call WA3HQZ. He
enjoyed spending time with his family, Bible study, completing his daily
crossword puzzle, World War II history, reading, swimming, vegetable
gardening, and country living. He was a rail fan and enjoyed attending
the railroad show in Austintown, Ohio.
He was a member of the New Castle Seventh-day Adventist Church. He
formerly served his church as an Elder, Deacon, Sabbath School
Superintendent/Teacher, and Assistant Treasurer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Martha June
Uber at home; sister Sharon (Richard) Newton of Las Vegas, NV; sister
Rose (Jack) Cottle of Pandora, OH; sister in law, Violet Hennon of Wayne
Township.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Uber was preceded in death by his
brother John Harry Uber.
Friends will be received on Saturday, August 8, 2009 from 1:00 P.M.
until the time of the service at 4:00 P.M. at the Marshall Funeral Home
Main St. Wampum. Pastor Kenneth L. Knost will officiate.
Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard.
Interment will follow in Clinton Cemetery.
