Donald Schlemmer, 87, of Wurtemburg passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the Haven Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.

Born in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Earl Emery and Mary Melzina Smith Schlemmer. He was married for 50 years to Mary Wolfe Schlemmer who passed away October 22, 2000.

Donald retired after 40 years with Armstrong World Industries. He was a member and also served as the Secretary and Vice President of the Local 256 United Rubber Workers. He was a former member of the Beaver County Labor Council. Don graduated from the Ohio State Labor Institute and VRW Time Study School. He was a former Perry Twp. Supervisor and served two terms as President of the Lawrence County Twp. Associations. Don was elected the first President of a Township with an under 4000 population. He served on the Board for the Lawrence County Partners for Progress. He also served on the Board of the North West Planning Commission.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lou Ehrenberg (Mike Blair) of New Castle; four sons, Frank (Felicia) Schlemmer of Oviedo, Florida, Tim (Diane) Schlemmer of Ellwood City, Bill (Jayne) Schlemmer of Chippewa, Rick (Patty) Schlemmer of Georgia; daughter in law, Nancy Schlemmer of Ellwood City, son in law, Barry Meister of Tennessee; sister, Nancy Spencer of Sylvania, Ohio 12 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Don J. Schlemmer on May 25, 2011, daughter Beth Meister on November 14, 2012, grandson, Cory Schlemmer in February of 2000; and siblings, Paul and David Schlemmer, Ruth Loccisano, Betty Jean Ross, and Arthur, Richard, Raymond and Anna Jean Schlemmer. and a grandson, Cory Schlemmer in February of 2000.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2 until the time of the Funeral service at 7 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery.  Online condolences may be sent to marshallsfh.com.
