Summary of a Beautiful Life

Dorothy Marie (Paul) Maley was born October 2, 1930, in Elwood City, PA to loving parents George and Katarina Paul. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1948, then attended secretarial school in Pittsburgh.

On August 11, 1951, Dorothy married John Edward Maley. The couple moved to Rockville, MD. Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother of three sons. She served in several capacities at Rockville and Gaithersburg Presbyterian Churches and worked as a secretary for Montgomery County Public Schools.

In retirement, the Maleys moved to Martinsburg, WV, where they continued to keep a schedule full of volunteer and social activities. Dorothy participated in several Bible studies at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and in the community. She also oversaw sales for the church’s annual pie sale mission fundraiser.

In 2014, the Maleys made a final move to the Homewood community in Frederick, MD. As she did in all of her previous churches, Dorothy immediately joined the Homewood Chapel Choir. Singing was one of her greatest joys. Her other hobbies included crocheting, playing card games, and baking. She delighted in hosting family and friends for meals or weekend visits and kept years’ worth of journals and photographs of her everyday blessings.

Dorothy lived her Christian faith and was an inspiration to her family, churches, and friends. She died peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 14, 2026 in Frederick, MD at the age of 95.

She is survived by three sons, Jeffrey P. Maley (Mary) of New Market, MD, Edward M. Maley (Joyce) of Abingdon, MD, and Kenneth J. Maley (Kathy) of Millersville, MD; five grandchildren Jimmy (Alissa), Megan, Selina (Micah), Kimberly (Dan), Nick (Katya); seven great-grandchildren Olivia, Duncan, Gregory, Zachary, Timothy, Mina, and Gavin, a brother, George Paul (Marge) and sister, Helen Crawford. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, John, and a sister, Katie Johns.
