Helen E. Jackson, 85, of Jackson Lane, New Beaver Boro passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital following a two day illness.

Born May 16, 1931 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late James Ralph and Helen Esther Anderson Little. She was married for 66 years to Robert B. Jackson Jr who survives.

Helen began her working career as a draftsman with Rexnord and Matthews in Ellwood City and then at Koppers in Pittsburgh.  She was currently the Jury Commissioner for Lawrence County. She was an active member of the Wampum Presbyterian Church, serving as the secretary for over 40 years. Active with local, county and state government, Helen was a former member and past president of the New Beaver Boro Council, former President of the PA State Boro’s Association, Co Founder of the PA State Elected Woman’s Association, Director of the PA Farm Bureau, State Republican Committee representing Lawrence County, and the Lawrence County Planning Commission. Helen was also a licensed pilot and was a former member and president of the Flying Farmers of America. She was also involved with many other interests and activities on the local, county and state level.

In addition to her husband, Bob, survivors include three sons, William (Sharon) Jackson of New Galilee, James (Charmaine) Jackson of New Galilee, Robert B. “Charlie” (Lauren) Jackson III of New Galilee; daughter, Linda Shellhammer of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by a son in law, Dale Shellhammer.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 5 from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum. Friends will also be received on Monday from 10 until the time of the funeral service at 11 am at the funeral home. Her pastor, Rev. Dr. William R. McGary will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Grceland Cemetery.
