Mabel R. Householder

Mabel R. Householder, 94, of New Beaver Borough, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020, at Providence Care Center following a short illness.

Born January 27, 1926, in Chewton, she was the daughter of the late Russell F. and Annie Bessell Murphy. She was married to Raymond Householder who passed away on December 4, 1962.

Mabel graduated from Wampum High School in 1943. She was a member of the Wampum Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon and assistant treasurer. Mabel retired from Vital Records after 20 years of service. She was a former tax collector in New Beaver Borough.

Mabel was a quiet worker who always wanted to help without recognition. She made sure she cooked or baked someone’s favorites for family events and enjoyed Fall weekend trips to Hershey and the “Scabins” in Pymatuning. She learned to play a family friendly card game and usually won a hand or two even though she had “forgotten” how to play. Mabel came out of her shell while at Providence and participated in many activities, including Bingo, and would pass along her prizes to her kids and grandkids. A visit never ended without her saying, “Love you, love you, love you.” Her loving and gentle presence will be greatly missed.

Survivors include two sons:  Robert (Charlotte) Householder of New Beaver, and Richard (Carol) Householder of Mt. Joy; three daughters:  Janet McFate of Enon Valley, Karin Householder of Dillsburg, and Joyce (Steve) Coonfare of New Beaver; seven grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews, and her roommate and last best friend, Amy Boy.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Kate Macom and Bertha McCready; a brother, Glen Murphy; and a son-in-law, Bob McFate.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2020, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main Street, Wampum. A funeral service will be held at Wampum Presbyterian Church, 370 Main Street, Wampum, on Friday, October 2, 2020, at 11 AM with her pastor, Rev. Elizabeth Wallace, officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour before the service.

To the caregivers and staff at Providence Care Center, “Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
