Shirley "Jean" Hogue, 88, of Lynnwood Drive, Fombell passed away Friday, July 4, 2025, at Quality Life Services following a brief illness.

Born June 21, 1937, in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Everitt and Mae Gross McCracken. She was married to Ellis R. Hogue. They shared 51 years of marriage until his passing on September 27, 2009.

Jean was a dedicated member of the Calvin Presbyterian Church, where she worked as a custodian along with her husband Ellis, and also a member of the Eastern Star #212 where she held multiple offices. Throughout her life, she served as a babysitter for many children in the community. Jean always had a positive attitude and enjoyed yard work, gardening, and canning. A devoted homemaker, family was the most important part of Jean's life, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include daughter, Beth (Steve) Vardzel of Ellwood City; son, Kenneth (Laura) Hogue of Italy; two grandsons, Alex Vardzel of Phoenix and Elijah (Gabby) Vardzel of Boalsburg, PA; two great-grandchildren; Matilda and Lillian; sister, Virginia McMillin of Chewton; two brothers, Larry (Patty) McCracken of Rochester, NY and Bill (Dannette) McCracken of Richmond, VA, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Kenneth in infancy.

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday July 8, 2025, from 3 until the Funeral Service at 7 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Her brother Pastor Bill McCracken and Pastor Sean Brubaker will officiate. An Eastern Star Service will be held at 6:45 pm. Interment will be in Hermon Union Cemetery.
