Stephanie Hangst

Stephanie “Stevie” Hangst, 71 , passed away peacefully at her Ellwood City residence on Saturday, October 29, 2016.

Beloved by many, Mrs. Hangst was almost universally described as “wonderful” by those who knew her. She was best-known for her ability to find the good in and bring it out of anyone she met and her generous nature.

Born July 20, 1945 in Tacoma, Washington to Jean (Gina) Marie Ricciuti-Gunn and Dr. Edward M. Gunn, she returned with Ms. Ricciuti-Gunn to Ellwood City post-WW2. A graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh, PA, Ms. Hangst then went on to work as a congressional page in Washington D.C. Upon her return to Ellwood City, she met Jack (John L.) Hangst, whom she married on July 9, 1977. They had a daughter, Andrea Amanda Marie Hangst, on January 20, 1982. Stevie worked as an administrative secretary at the Ellwood City Hospital and served as the Manager at the Connoquennessing Country Club.

Stevie is survived by her daughter Andrea, step-daughter Amy Love and her husband Jim, step-son- Jeffrey Hangst, dear cousins Albert Morini, Christopher Morini, Angelo Morini Jr., Joan Girardi and Nick Di Alesandro, sister Wendy Wickenden and husband Herbert, brother Edward and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members, friends, colleagues. All were equally and significantly beloved to Mrs. Hangst.

She has been preceded in death by her husband, her mother, her father, aunts Lisa Morini, Virginia Di Alesandro and Mary Cisco, cousin Ronnie Morini, step-daughter Jacqueline Hangst and numerous other dearly loved friends and family members. Such is life; these lists get frustratingly longer the older we get.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Mrs. Hangst on Thursday, Nov 3 at 11 am at Holy Redeemer Church. Any remembrances are encouraged to be in the form of donations to Catholic Charities, Pittsburgh/Lawrence County Branch, 413 Highland Avenue, New Castle, PA 16101.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Marshall Funeral Home, Ellwood City.  Online condolences may be sent to www.marshallsfh.com
