Thomas E. Shaffer, 79, of New Castle, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was born on June 23, 1945, in New Castle, PA.

Tom proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army Military Police, stationed domestically during the Vietnam War. After returning home to New Castle, he built a long and accomplished career at New Castle Refractories, where he worked for over 40 years. Starting in an entry-level position, he rose through the ranks to become Vice President and General Manager and later became majority owner and President of the company prior to its sale and his retirement.

A devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather and great-grandfather, Tom is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jessilyn; his children, Leslie Mills (Mitch) and Thomas (T.J.) Shaffer (Micheleen); his grandchildren, Andrew Koelliker, Mackenzie Shaffer, Lindsay Alger, Braeden Shaffer, Ellison Shaffer, and Christian Mills; and his great-grandchildren, Abigail and J.J., who were among the greatest joys of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Leslie and Carrie Shaffer, and his brother, Albert Shaffer (Vickie).

Tom was an accomplished golfer and a longtime member of Del Mar Golf Course in Ellwood City. He also enjoyed spending time with friends and relaxing at Rudy’s Halfway Inn/Six Packs Bar & Grill-in Castlewood, PA, where he shared many laughs and stories over the years.

Known for his quiet strength, kind heart, and deep commitment to family and friends, Tom leaves behind a legacy of integrity, warmth, and loyalty that will continue to live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
