Betty Jean Newton


Betty Jean Newton, 63, of Rush Lane Wampum (New Beaver Boro) passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at her residence following an extended illness.

Born April 15, 1948 in Beaver Falls, PA, she was the daughter of the late David Funkhouser and Irene Cunningham Funkhouser of Beaver Falls.

She was married for 44 years to Arthur R. "Butch" Newton, who survives.

Betty worked as the Assistant Director of Activities for 15 years at the Office on Aging and Catholic Charities in New Castle. She was a member of nthe Wampum Presbyterian Church. Betty also taught line dancing at the New Wilmington Sr. Center. She loved to crochet, sew, and make clothes. She was a former Assistant Den Mother for the Webelos in Wampum.

In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by a son and daughter in law, Robert D. and Sheila Newton of Williamson, GA; a granddaughter, Mikayla Newton; and a sister, Nancy Drabick of New Brighton.

She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents, Frank and Eva Kraynie.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday May 23, 2011 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main Street Wampum.

Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 11:00 am with Rev. Dr. William R. McGary officiating.

Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
