Dorothy M. Guthrie

Dorothy M. Guthrie, 93, formerly of Line Ave. Ellwood City, PA died on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at the Ellwood City Hospital.

Born April 18, 1918 in Elkview, WV, she was the daughter of the late James B. Melton and Nina A. Hayes and step father Owen W. Hayes .

She was married for 45 to Roy N. Guthrie who passed away in 1984.

Mrs. Guthrie graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Charleston, WV. She did both general and private duty nursing in the former Ellwood City Hospital. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was the RN for the church nursery for over 35 years. Dorothy helped to organize the Do and Save Homemakers Group and had been a co-leader for over 35 years.

Survivors include a son and daughter in law – Wayne and Lana Guthrie of Ellwood City; two brothers – Rev. Herman L. Hayes of Hurricane, WV, Jack V. Hayes (Yvonne) Hayes of Melbourne, FL; four grandsons – Michael Guthrie of Galena, IL, Bill Butcher of VA and Robert Guthrie of NY, Ronald Guthrie, NY; two great grandchildren, one great great grandchild. Also surviving is a sister in law and her husband Ruby and Jack Gibson of Dunbar, WV.

She was preceded in death by two sons – Victor M. Guthrie and Bruce E. Guthrie; four brothers – Delmar D. Hayes, Holly A. Hayes, Ralph E. Hayes and Ernest Melton; three sisters – Flora Hayes Bennett, Mary Hayes Gilliam and Mabel Melton.

Funeral Services will be held at the Cross Lanes United Methodist Church, 5320 Frontier Dr. Cross Lanes, WV on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 2:00 pm with her nephew, Rev. Gregory Hayes and her brother, Rev. Herman Hayes officiating.

Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Park in Dunbar, WV.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Marshall Funeral Home, Ellwood City.
