Dorothy Virginia Ickes

Dorothy Virginia Ickes, 87, formerly of Ellwood City died on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care, New Wilmington.

Born June 24, 1923 in Ellwood City, PA, she was the daughter of the late J. Emery and Elva M. Dutterer Neuman.

She was married on November 6, 1971 to Edgar A. Ickes who passed away on December 26, 1994.

Dorothy retired in1974 following 32 years of service working in the accounting department of US Steel. She graduated from Lincoln High School in January of 1942. She was a member of Bell Memorial Presbyterian Church and their Kings Daughter's Class. Active in the community, she was involved with the Ellwood City AARP, Ellwood City Historical Society, Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army, and the American Cancer Society. Dorothy also briefly resided in Bradenton, Florida and Hurt, Virginia. While living in Virginia, she was active with the Lynchburg Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include 2 sisters - Donna (Dale) Shaw of New Castle, Grace A. (Rev. James R.) Lilly of Ellwood City; two stepchildren - David Ickes of Philadelphia, PA; Carolyn Wimer of Kettering, OH; 4 grandchildren - David "Drew" Ickes, Olivia Ickes, Todd Wimer, Jayne Wimer Richeson; and nieces and nephews - Cindy L. (Jeff) Maurer, Robert E. (Deborah) Shaw, Jeffrey (Taylor) Shaw, Dr. Timothy (Cheryl) Lilly and Carol (James) Reichert.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 24, 2011 from 4-8 at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City.

Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, June 25 at 11:00 am with Rev. Derek Longbrake officiating.

Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.
