Helen M. Mars
Helen M. Mars, 94, of New Beaver Boro passed to her eternal rest on Friday, September 9, 2011 at the Jameson Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Born September 3, 1917 on the family homestead in New Beaver Boro, she was the daughter of the late David and Hannah Hilton Hairhoger.
She was married to James Franklin "Frank" Mars who died on March 3, 1953.
Helen retired as a supervisor from the Ellwood City Knitting Mill. She received her salvation at the age of 15 at a revival in Wampum, and went on to be a founding member of the Wampum Pentecostal Church where she was the longtime pianist and Sunday and Bible School Teacher. She continued to serve the Lord as the pianist of the Chewton Christian Church. She graduated from Wampum High School in 1934. Helen loved attending revival services, gospel music, reading, and traveling.
Survivors include 2 daughters - Jean Mars of New Beaver Boro, Janice Green of Memphis, TN; 3 sons - James F. Mars Jr. of New Beaver Boro, Eugene (Beverly) Mars of Memphis, TN, Jay C. Mars of Jackson, MS; a grandson whom she raised - James J. Mars of Memphis, TN; a sister - Jean (Jim) Ciletti of New Beaver Boro; a brother - Gerald Hairhoger of New Beaver; 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Lenny Agnello, 2 brothers - Carl and Joe Hairhoger; and 3 sisters - Sarah Barber, Essie Pauletich, and Dorothy Smith.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 - 7 on Saturday, September 10 and from 3 -7 on Sunday, September 11 at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street, Wampum.
Funeral Services will be held at the Chewton Christian Church on Monday, September 12 at 11:00 am with Pastor Dick Allen officiating.
Interment will follow in Clinton Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Chewton Christian Church.
