James K. "Hoopy" Burnworth


James K. "Hoopy" Burnworth, 60, formerly of Ellwood City died on Monday, November 28, 2011 in Las Vegas, NV. He had been ill for several years from complications due to Agent Orange.

Born December 6, 1950 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late James K. and Louise Jean Baker Burnworth Sr.

Jim graduated from Lincoln High School in 1968 and attended Youngstown State University. He served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971 as a member of the 101st Airborne Division. He was a lifelong avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He loved playing softball. His most cherished time was spent with his family especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons - Steven Burnworth and Jameson Burnworth, both of Las Vegas; two daughters - Jaime (John) Meyer and Renee Burnworth and her fiancé - Tim Stiles, all of Ellwood City; sister - Judith Burnworth Hamblin of Lexington, KY; three grandchildren - Morgan Meyer, Kenny Meyer, Joshua Stiles, all of Ellwood City; niece, Stephanie Anne (Bryant) Brown of Pelham, AL, and two great nephews, Allen James Brown and Christopher William Brown of Pelham, AL.

He had been living in Las Vegas with his ex-wife, Lauranne Ferrara, and her husband, Kim Smolka, who were his caregivers and will miss him deeply.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Private services were held. Interment was in the Slippery Rock Cemetery. Military services were held by the Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be donated to the donor's favorite charity.
