Joe Herr


Joe Herr, 82, of Old Pittsburgh Rd., Wampum, PA passed away April 23, 2011.
Born August 2, 1928 in Beaver County, PA, he was the son of the late Harry and Ruth Crate Herr.

Joe was married to the late Dolores "Dolly" Mielke from 1948 until her death in 1974. Joe re-married to the late Anna Jackson Herr until her death in 2010.

Joe retired from the Etna Standard in Ellwood City in 1981 after working there for 30 years. He also worked his farm his entire life and was devoted to his farm land and his family.

Joe was one of nine children. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters; Regina Herr Schaefer and Vernie Herr and 3 brothers; Charles, Jim and Dave Herr. He was also preceded in death by one grandson, William J. Herr.

Joe is survived by one sister, Ruth Herr Davis and 2 brothers; John and Raymond Herr.

Joe is also survived by 5 children and one step-daughter;
1. Joseph A. Herr (wife, MaryEllen) of New Galilee, PA
2. Roy "Lee" Herr (wife, Cindy) of Mesa, AZ
3. Don Herr (wife, Sonya) of Marshville, NC
4. Dolores Herr Barroso (husband, Al) of Dade City, FL
5. Larry Herr (wife, Crystal) of West Pittsburg, PA
6. (Step-Daughter) Lenore Patton Zotter (husband, Ron) of Pittsburgh, PA

Joe is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Joe enjoyed nothing more than working his farm and hanging out under his grape arbor. He cherished his time spent with his family and friends.

Calling hours will be Wednesday April 27th, 2011 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at MarshallFuneral Home, 341 Main St., Wampum, PA. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home onThursday, April 28th, 2011 at 11 am with his son, Joseph A. Herr officiating.

Memorial Contribution may be sent to St. Jude Children'sResearch Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

I send my deepest sympathy for your loss of your father Joe and to the other members of your family. You and I, Joe had many similarities in the father's we had. Tough, hard working, strait shooters. The kind you realize there aren't many like and the kind you surely miss when their gone. Sorry to miss seeing your many family. Take care my friend.
