Mario A. Scala


Mario A. Scala, 79, of Canal St. Wampum died on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at the Haven Convalescent Home following an extended illness.

Born June 27, 1932 in Wampum, he was the son of the late Anthony and Adelina DiTommasso Scala.

Mario was employed in the food service industry in many different capacities all of his working life. He began working at the A & P in New Castle, and retired from Shop and Save in New Castle as the Assistant Manager. Mario was a 1950 graduate of Wampum High School and a member of Queen of Heaven Church. A Corporal in the US Army, he served during the Korean Conflict. He was a former member of the American Legion Post #749 in Wampum. Mario was an avid gardener.

Survivors include three sisters: Josephine Lawson of Koppel, Nancy Scala of Wampum, Delores "Dolly" Dando and her husband, Nick of Wampum; and a number of nieces nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers - Andrew and Nick Scala; and four sisters - Carolyn Scala, Mary A. Skvarla, Jennie Kramer, and Mary T. Scala, as a child.

A private blessing service will be held on Thursday, September 15 at 11:00 am at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main St. Wampum with Rev. Father Louis Pascazi officiating.

Interment will follow in the Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard.
