William "Whitey" M. McMillin

William "Whitey" M. McMillin, 82, of Chewton Wurtemburg Rd. and Miami, FL died unexpectedly at his home in Miami on September 7, 2011.

He was born December 20, 1928, in New Castle, PA and grew up on the family dairy farm near Chewton, which he later owned.

He was the son of the late William W. and Marie McKim McMillin.

He is survived by his wife, Diann Bebble McMillin, and two sisters, Helen (Fred) Borga of Murraysville, PA, and his twin sister, Anna Byers (Don) Fox of Enon Valley, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Byers, and two brothers, David and James McMillin.

Known as Bill, and affectionately by his family and friends as "Whitey" due to his blonde hair. He graduated in 1946 from Lincoln High School. In 1948, he was a member of a roller skating review that performed programs in local rinks. After high school, he started his flying career in a Piper Cub Aircraft. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Germany in the Occupation Forces. While in Germany he shot pistols competitively representing the Army. Bill went to Miami in 1953 and attended the University of Miami and taught flying and worked at Sears and Roebuck to pay for his schooling. As a professional pilot, he flew for Log Air, Riddle, Airlift (with CIA clearance), and National Airlines which merged into Pan American World Airways. He retired from Pan Am in 1984. During his flying career, the McMillan Special # 5 Sprint Car was born and evolved into an engine overhaul business with his two brothers.

He was also an avid archer with his father, being a lifetime member of the PA State Archery Association and the National Archery Association.

Whitey retired at the farm outside of Chewton and took up golfing, his heart's desire.

Friends will be received on Friday, November 18 from 5 to 8 at the Marshall Funeral Home, Wampum. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at the Wampum Presbyterian Church at 11 am with Rev. Dr. William R. McGary officiating. A luncheon will be served following the service.
