Ralph F. "Doc" Volpe Sr.


Ralph F. "Doc" Volpe Sr., 72, of Fountain Ave. Ellwood City died unexpectedly on Monday, September 26, 2011 at his residence.

Born July 9, 1939 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Frank "Grundy" and Stella DeVinney Volpe.

Doc retired from Calgon where he had worked from 1973 to 1999. Following his retirement he worked as a driver for McElwains and most recently at the Butler Auto Auction. He was a Veteran of the US Navy and a member of the Sons of Italy. Doc was an avid golfer and a Steeler's Fan. He loved to read, mostly western books. His most cherished time was spent with his grandchildren.

Survivors include a son - Skip (Erin) Volpe of Ellwood City; daughter - Cheri (Ed) Kaufman of Ellwood City; 4 granddaughters: Allison and Angela Volpe, Jillian and Taylor Kaufman; his former wife, Suella Volpe of Denver, NC; 5 sisters - Clara Turco of New Castle, Louise Vitullo, Ralphetta Majors, Pudue LaCava, Flicka (Dino) Colaberardino, all of Ellwood City; and one brother - Earl Tyler of Ellwood City.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two granddaughters at birth, Sara and Julie Kaufman.

Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 on Wednesday September 28 at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City.

Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, September 29 at 2:00 pm with The Very Reverend Christopher Davis of the St. John the Evangelist Church in Beaver Falls officiating.

Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.
