Edith Timblin


Edith Timblin, 91, of Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople, formerly of New Castle died on Friday, July 16, 2010 at her residence following an extended illness.

Born May 1, 1919 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late James and Edna Houk Perdue.

She was married in 1943 to the late Richard Timblin who died in 1973.

Edith was co-owner of the Patchwork Craft and Flower Shop in Volant for 19 years. She was an active member of the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder, deacon and Sunday School Teacher. At church, Edie was also a member of the Martha Circle, Presbyterian Women and taught Bible School. She was a member of the Christian Business Women, Castlewood Home Extension, the Ellwood City AARP and the American Business Women. She was also a Girl Scout Leader for 20 years. In addition to Patchwork, Edith worked at Shenango Pottery from 1938 to 1943, doing appliqués. She maintained her craft business in Volant Mills until she was 80. When she was 85 , Edie flew in a hot air balloon. She enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include two sons, Randy (Debby) Timblin of Boardman, Ohio, Les (Mary Lou) Timblin of New Castle, daughter, Charlene (Larry) Troggio of New Castle, son in law, David White of Ellport, brother, Don Perdue of New Castle, ten grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol White, four brothers, Ed, Richard, Ralph and Jerry Perdue, and a sister in infancy.

Visiting hours will be held from 4-7, on Monday, July 19 at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Funeral Services will be held at the Marshall Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 12:30 P.M. with Rev. Julia Williamson officiating. Interment will follow in the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church Cemetery .
