George A. Pavkovich


George A. Pavkovich, 68, of First Ave. Ellwood City died on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh following a courageous three month battle with cancer.

Born January 6, 1942 in Salem, Ohio, he was the son of the late Michael and Zorka Divjak Pavkovich.

He was married to Sandra A. Ross Pavkovich on February 24, 1968. George retired following 30 years of service at Cemex, where he was a machine operator. He was affiliated with the Serbian Orthodox Church. A Veteran of the Marines, he served from 1960 - 1968, including two tours in Vietnam, Okinawa and the Dominican Republic, where he was a communication lineman. George was an avid hunter and fisherman. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter Addyson.

In addition to his wife, Sandra, he is survived by two daughters, Dominique M. "Nicque" (Adam) Karis of Ellwood City, Amelia J. Pavkovich of Pittsburgh, four sisters: Dawn (Robert) Kwiat of New Castle, Sylvia Mozzocio of Wampum, Helen Cugini of Ellwood City and Darlene (Timothy) Moses of New Castle, two brothers; Robert ( Catherine) Pavkovich of South Carolina, Michael Pavkovich Jr. of New Castle, and his special granddaughter, Addyson Olivia Karis who affectionately called him Jeda, and his best friend, James Cable of Ellport. He is also survived by his in laws, Donald (Carol) Ross of Washington, Pa., Anthony Ross of Ava, Missouri, Jean Nicoletta of Hampstead, Maryland and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, half brother, Steve Pavkovich and his in laws, Dominick and Jennie Ross.

Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 on Monday, May 17 and on Tuesday, May 18 from 10 until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at the Marshall Funeral Home Main St. Wampum. Rev. Richard Salley will officiate. Burial will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard.
